Australia Vacation April 9-23, 2011

Tommy and I were fortunate to travel to Perth, Australia for two weeks to visit friends Brian & Elena Ondrias.  It was a long and tiring journey to get there but we were looking forward to have a break from Korea, seeing good friends, and adding one more distination to our travels.

Upon arrival we received the sad news that our dear friends Rhea and Troy Prasek lost their baby girl Harper.  The devasting news weighed heavy on our hearts and minds then, and still do today.  Being across the globe and not being with our friends during this time was extremely difficult.  We are deeply sorry for their loss and know Harper is watching over them.  Rhea & Troy, we can't wait to get home in 6 weeks and give you both a long overdue hug!

After recovering from travel, we started exploring around Perth and then ventured out to Margaret River and Rottnest Island.  First of all, Australians love the 80's!  The hair dos, clothes (remember cut off jean shorts that were way to high on your hips but your butt cheeks hang out, floral print, lace, MC Hammer pants, hats, Ferris Bueler sunglasses!), and music.  I have been out of the states for awhile and maybe these things are coming back there as well, but I hope not....but Tommy hopes so because he loves the 80s style.

It was hard to select which pictures to share since we took over 2000!  I don't know how we did, Tommy had the camera 98% of the time.  It may be time to buy my own camera so I can share in the picture taking!

Feeding the Kangaroos was one of my favorite moments.  We saw
many wild kangaroos throughout Margaret River.  They spill
into the fields in the mornings and evenings much like deer in Texas.

Read the sign above for information on this pic!  This is
Tommy's (the donkey) party trick.  He catches feed pellets,
unfortunately, I hit him in the eye instead of the mouth.

On our way to Margaret River, the beaches are everywhere!

Where's Turtle? Hint I am wearing a black shirt!

The next six pictures are of Cape Leeuwin, the point where the
Southern and Indian Oceans meet.

The entrance to Lake Cave.  It was discovered by a 17 year old
girl on a horse while searching for cattle.

The limestone table inside of Lake Cave.

The opening to Mammoth Cave.

The pool in front of Brian and I fills with water with every
crashing wave....would be a sweet place to sit all day with a
cooler of refreshments.

Yes that is a fanny pack on my waist!  FYI Tommy's camera, why am I carrying it?
Biking riding around Rottnest Island, just a little sore the next day.  We rented the bikes for 2 days, but they didn't bother touching them on day 2!  I could barely sit down.

He swore he wasn't going to wear a helmet until he found out it was the law!  Tommy was a pretty decent bike rider.

One of the 63 beaches on Rottnest Island.

These are Quokka's, there a mini version of the Kangaroo and
there is a large population of them on Rottnest Island.

Kangaroo meat!  We had to try it once, just a little gamey tasting.

Cooked Kangaroo.

Have you ever seen ribeyes like this! We went to the butcher shop for these bad boys...almost like home!
